“The Rising of the New Right in the Southern Cone of Latin America”

Abstracts

The presentation will analyze the reasons behind the emergence and rising of new political constituencies in the countries in the southern cone of Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). The main objective of the presentation is to point out the similarities and differences between these political movements and the emergence of the New Right in Europe or North American and the strategical use of hate speech. Analyzing the different ways in which fascism has been categorized (as an ideology, as a political movement or as a social practice) will be fundamental to comprehend in which ways these political movements could be understood as neofascism or as something different from fascism.
